#MAENGLISHLANGUAGE&LITERATURE
Program Description:
The English Department at the University of Haifa is home to innovative scholarship and teaching, focusing on the literatures and cultures of the English-speaking world. We offer a fully-accredited two-year MA program, with a variety of specializations.
Our curriculum thus responds to the demands and concerns of our changing world. With all lectures, readings, and assignments in English, our students are prepared for varied career opportunities, both local and global. We pride ourselves on our welcoming and diverse departmental culture, fostering academic rigor while attending to the individual student. At the same time, we engage with the academic community at large to offer interdisciplinary programs, research projects, social and cultural events, and study abroad initiatives.
Upon completion of all requirements, students will be awarded a Master of Arts in English Language and Literature.
Program Highlights:
-
The program offers courses and seminars in a wide range of genres and periods, from the canonical English literature of the last seven hundred years to emergent fields and forms addressing today’s most pressing concerns: from Shakespeare to Toni Morrison, Romantic poetry to postcolonial science fiction, the Modernist novel to contemporary literary theory, creative writing and translation.
-
The program is taught in English over two academic years, beginning in October. The program offers two tracks – a thesis track in which students write a final research project and an exam track in which they take a comprehensive exam in a field of their choice. Students may also undertake an interdisciplinary personal study program, if approved by the Department Chair and the Dean of Advanced Studies.
