This course is designed for students with no prior knowledge of Spoken Arabic or the written language (MSA). An emphasis will be put on the Levantine Dialects.
The program is based on the principle of immersion, the active use of the language of study, both inside and outside the classroom. The language of instruction will be therefore Arabic though during the first week the instructor will use also English to explain the foundations of the Spoken Arabic. Gradually we will move to Arabic as the program progresses.
Students are introduced to the spoken Arabic first of all through the rich world of Greetings and then by exposing them to a few chosen topics that are necessary to facilitate their way in everyday conversations.
This program also exposes the students to the fascinating Arab culture, The Variety of Arab societies in Israel, Arabic songs and conversations with Arab Native speakers. Card games and working in groups are used to assist in a better absorption of the material taught in class.
Classes meet four days a week for five hours each day. In order to provide an opportunity for students to actually speak Arabic and immerse themselves in the culture, an academic tour will take place on the fifth day to locations of interest in various Arab communities in Israel, such as: The old City of Acre, Druze Villages in The Golan Heights and Jerusalem.
